Potter Anne Askengren in Lärbro has built a studio and gallery building in light clay with outer walls approximately 50 cm thick. The locally procured clay is mixed with water and whisked mechanically into slurry that is then mixed with chopped straw. The straw, which must be of high quality, is also locally produced. On top of a basic wall of Leca blocks there is a double wooden frame where the slurry is gradually added. Both the outside and the inside are thereafter plastered layer upon layer with a fine-grained mixture of clay, sand, straw and cow manure. In the interior the walls are covered with eggshell paint. Externally Anne intends to try her own methods as there is not yet a wide experience of this type of building in Nordic climates.
