Suderbyn: International Workcamp 21 Sep - 4 Oct

New friends from all over are coming to help Suderbyn

Eleven volunteers from 9 countries have gathered for the first  SCI international workcamp at Suderbyn. Just weeks after the first inhabitants moved in, the group arrived on 21 September to work, study and enjoy 2 weeks together with the embryonic community at Suderbyn. Luckily the workcamp had been prepared by a working weekend by IAL (www.ial.se), the Swedish Branch of Service Civil International (SCI)(www.sciint.org) in August and at the last minute by the travelling "bare-foot" architect from Boston, Gabriel Bergeron who arrived the week before the camp and stayed the first 5 days.  As well, Engineer Solveig Håll from our friend community Gebers in Stockholm, did a great job starting the window renovation work and teaching volunteers the technique during her brief stay. She brought the total to 19 persons staying at Suderbyn.

The main job planned was the painting of the old farm house. The camp has outdone our expectations and gone on to do more than the exterior walls. Windows are being renovated, fruit is being harvested, a sculptured "Suderbyn" sign is being erected on the barn, the barn roof is getting fixed and a large barn roof window has been added the light up the future "eko-torg".

There will be a lot of important work, some valuable study time but also alot of fun throughout the camp!
